D’banj emerges as Africa’s nominee for MTV EMA


D’banj has been voted and nominated to be Africa’s nominee in the Africa-India-Middle East category for the forthcoming 2012 Worldwide Act for MTV EMA!.

D’banj has been picked as the Best Act to represent Africa as a Worldwide Act nominee at the 2012 MTV EMA, billed to take place in Frankfurt on November 11th, 2012, MTV EMA stated whilst announcing his nomination on Monday.


“Music fans all over the world have spoken! You voted around the clock… you told everyone you know to support your favourite artist… and now you’ve chosen a local EMA winner! It’s… D’Banj!” MTV stated on its website to announce D’banj’s nomination alongside others.

D’banj who recently signed to Kanye West’s Good Music label, was described by MTV as “a Nigerian singer and songwriter as well as harmonica guru. He performs in Yoruba, English and Pidgin English.”

Recognising D’banj’s African fame and listing out his past accolades, the global music channel stated that “D’banj is a superstar in his home continent, winning many music awards including Best African Act at the 2007 MTV EMA 2007, Artist of the Year at both the 2008 and 2009 MTV Africa Music Awards, and Best International Act: Africa at the 2011 BET Awards”

From now until 30 October, local winners around the globe such as D’banj will compete for the honour of representing their region in the race for the second ever Worldwide Act.
