Angry mob burn down police station, court in Jos

An angry mob went on a rampage on Sunday evening in Miango, Bassa Local Government Area, Jos burning down a police station to protest the detention of their friends. The Public Relations Officer of the State Police Command, ASP Samuel Dabai, said on Monday “the incident happened after an annual festival…after the festival, an argument ensued between two youths and one of them brought out an axe and wanted to split his colleague’s head but policemen quickly intervened and arrested the two of them…the youths in the area mobilized, attacked the Police Station and released their colleagues.They also burnt the station and a court in the area.” So far, no arrest has been made in connection with the incident as the policemen on duty are few while the others are yet to resume after “running for their lives’’, ASP Dabai said. According to him, investigation into the incident has commenced while all those involved in the act will be arrested. Meanwhile, the state military Special Task Force (STF) spokesman, Captain Mdahyelya Markus, said on Monday in Jos that some suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident. “Our men have been deployed to the area to restore law and order while some of the youths have been arrested and are being interrogated.”
